About This Course

Do you recall what your first year was like as a graduate program leader, manager, or team member? Do you recall what you discovered? I do.

I discovered as a first year EMBA program director:

  • There was no instuction manual for doing my job.
  • A common body of knowledge for graduate program management did not exist.
  • That my job description was a generic document that was of little help.
  • Most of my time was spent navigating the many campus and B-School silos that had evolved over the years.
  • My onboarding process, simply stated was, “you’ll figure it out.”
  • That I was responsible for more than what I had the authority to change.
  • Legacy systems dominated daily operations.
  • Program performance metrics lacked the granularity for managing daily operations.
  • And much more.

Sound familiar?

Whether we consider ourselves graduate program managers or leaders or not, we are being asked to contribute to the management of the graduate program to which we are assigned to work. It’s part of our job function no matter our title. Yet what is expected from a leadership or management standpoint is rarely spelled out. Further more, much of what is expected rarely comes with decision-making authority or is within the purview of the silo in which we work.

This course is a way for me to address some of these discoveries and help other graduate management education (GME) professionals navigate through their own discoveries.

I talked with 9 experienced graduate GME) professionals to hear what advice and thoughts they have about the learner journey and graduate program management creating training content.

Currently, this course is made up of four lessons. Viewing the lessons will give you insight into what it means to use “The Learner Journey as A Framework for Managing Your Graduate Program.” where to start, thoughts about measuring, using images and videos effectively, and more.

The four lessons are:

  • Introduction to The Learner Journey – A Framework for Managing Graduate Programs
  • Introduction to Who This Course is For
  • Why A Framework is Needed
  • The Learner Journey – A Simple Framework for Managing Graduate Programs.

In addition to the content in this course, I’ll also release the full interview with each speaker. Click below or go to the catalog page to access each of the full interviews.
