MBA News Digest Comment: None.
Extracted Content: Between March 1 and August 15, 2020, I shared almost 400 graduate program related articles with MBA News Digest subscribers. Articles about COVID-19 and how colleges and universities are reacting and how graduate program leaders are responding fill the news media outlets. From a graduate program leader’s standpoint, the items that are available focus on the move to remote work, decision making associated with classes returning to campus, adjustments to admission standards, and student satisfaction. Rare is the article that discusses the role cocurricular and extracurricular activities are playing in remote learning.
Most graduate program leaders and faculty focused on transitioning courses to the remote learning environment, and rightly so. Yet, cocurricular or experiential learning activities that help students gain skills prescribed by their program of study and extracurricular experiences that help students engage with each other and their program or institution needed transitioning. Perhaps failing to transition these activities contributed to student and faculty dissatisfaction and the lack of engagement reported by some researchers.
